Role Summary

I help manage the Sport & Health Science Lab alongside Chris. My responsibilities include performing the calibration checks weekly and make sure the equipment is ready to use. I support in practical lectures showing the students how to use the kit and help set up the equipment. I put on CPD workshops for the students to learn a new skill, for example capillary blood taking. I organise dissertation workshops for the students based on their chosen equipment.

Schools and colleges also come in for bespoke workshops, this ranges from year 9-13 and we offer workshops that link with their studies as well as giving them an experience of higher education. We showcase our facilities and degree options where they will perform some fun activities that link to the degree.

Not only this we work closely with the Sports therapy clinic too, particularly with Devon and Cornwall police and the environmental agency where they come in for a MSK assessment and a health check. Additionally, we work with a range of different athletes, clubs conducting various physiological testing for them. All this work we do each month, alongside general lab day to day jobs, we write up an interactive newsletter to send out to all sport students to show them everything that happens within the Sport and Health Science lab, and students can always get involved!
