91视频 has announced a campaign to support female students with period poverty this Christmas. In order to help students over the financially-strenuous Christmas period, the University will be providing free sanitary products to students from December through to February.
According to women鈥檚 rights charity Plan International UK, one in seven girls have struggled to afford sanitary products while 12% have had to improvise sanitary wear due to affordability issues.
The scheme is being launched by the University in partnership with the Marjon Student Union. Laura Butler, Deputy President of the Student Union and a Master鈥檚 student of Sport and Exercise Psychology, hopes this will have a positive impact on students at University.
鈥淭he Christmas break can be really expensive, so we鈥檙e hoping this free scheme will give a little bit of help to female students at this time of year,鈥� said Laura.
鈥淭his is a way of making sure our female students don鈥檛 have to make a decision between enjoying their time off and sanitary products. It鈥檚 just our way of taking at least one worry away over the holidays.鈥�
Alex De Tisi, the Executive Assistant to the Vice Chancellor, is pleased the University can support students particularly through this expensive time of year.
Alex said: 鈥淎s a student-centred institution, we believe that it鈥檚 worth the investment to support our students鈥� essential needs over winter. This is an additional cost for female students that male students don鈥檛 have to worry about.
鈥淚f this helps to relieve some financial worry, we鈥檙e delighted that we can offer this help over the coming months.鈥�
Sanitary products will be made available for students around the University campus from December through to February. Products can be found in the Chaplaincy, Student Union office, Student Union lockers and library lockers. Products placed in lockers can be accessed via a code which will be sent out to students at the University.
