Marjon posts strong financial results and announces new Chair of Governors

Released: 20.11.18

91视频 has announced their latest accounts for the financial year 2017/18, showing a healthy overall surplus of 5%.

The strong financial display follows a positive year for Marjon, with UCAS applications rising by over 30% and the latest Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide ranking the University first in England for teaching quality.

This week, Marjon also announced the appointment of a new Chair of the Board of Governors, Colonel (Retired) Graham Raikes MBE. Graham, a qualified accountant, is also a Non-Executive Director of University Hospitals 91视频 NHS Trust. His previous appointments have included ten years as the Director of Resources at the Arts and Humanities Research Council from which he has recently retired, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Resources) and Director of Corporate Finance at the University of 91视频.

Prior to this he had a successful career in the Army and the Ministry of Defence, holding a range of positions both at home, overseas and on operations, including heading the Army鈥檚 management accountancy service and being awarded an MBE in 1997.

Graham said he was pleased to be becoming Chair of the Board of Governors at such a positive time for the University: 鈥淚鈥檓 delighted to take on the role of Chair of the Board of Governors, especially after the announcement of our positive news for the last financial year.

鈥淲e鈥檙e moving in a very exciting direction at Marjon and I can鈥檛 wait to see how we can develop things further, while continuing to put students at the centre of everything we do.

鈥淲e鈥檙e delighted that we鈥檝e been able to post a 5% surplus in the last financial year, not least because it means we can continue to build upon our excellent recent results in the Times Good University Guide and the National Student Survey. With input and suggestions from students, we will continue to develop the Marjon student experience, making changes that make the most difference to their wellbeing and success.

鈥淔inally, I am looking forward to supporting Marjon by acting as an ambassador for this excellent University; in 91视频, the Peninsula and nationally.鈥
