Released: 24.08.18

91视频 Special Educational Needs and Disability Studies Programme Lead Dr Jonathan Harvey has had a journal article accepted to Social Inclusion regarding his research on using social theory as a tool to understand the experiences of disabled students in higher education.

Dr Harvey, who heads up the university鈥檚 Special Educational Needs and Disability Studies degree, has written a research article assessing the varying degrees of validity of current theorists in the field and has drawn on his own personal experiences to help demystify the experiences of disabled students in higher education.

鈥淚鈥檓 really pleased that my article has been accepted and I hope that it contributes to the debate regarding disabled students鈥 experiences in higher education,鈥 said Dr Harvey.

鈥淲hat I was really trying to look in to was how the writings of several social theorists can be helpful in making sense of disabled student journeys.鈥

The issue of Social Inclusion featuring Dr Harvey鈥檚 work will be published in late 2018 and exclusively focusses on students with disabilities in higher education.

The special edition aims to shine a light on disabled students in the education system and Dr Harvey鈥檚 work will feature alongside other established figures in the field.

Dr Harvey continued: 鈥淚鈥檓 hopeful that the research brings forward some different ideas and moreover adds to the appeal of the course here at Marjon.鈥

Places are still available to study Special Educational Needs and Disability Studies in 2018 and you can find out more about the course here.
