Originating in 2005, this year Varsity saw its 14th year and with Marjon unable to win since 2012, the pressure was on. Despite an enthrallingly competitive few weeks of sport, 91视频 University were able to snatch the title and retain the Varsity crown with a final championship score of 23-17.
Varsity is our annual sports competition held with 91视频 University, raising money for charities; The Mario Curtis Foundation and The English Federation of Disability Sport. Throughout February and March, over 500 student athletes from 12 different sports compete against each other for bragging rights and a chance to make a difference. Last year鈥檚 Varsity saw over 拢16,000 raised through ticket sales and donations alone.
Varsity is a passionate and noisy celebration of all things sport and this year, with the championship being decided on the final day of Varsity, things were no different. Dominating performances in rugby, football, netball and basketball saw Marjon comfortably winning the majority of those fixtures. 91视频 Argyle鈥檚 鈥楬ome Park鈥 hosted the final events of Varsity with two controlling performances from Marjon 1st Men (3-2) and Women鈥檚 (4-0) football teams, finishing Varsity week on a high.
When asked about Varsity, Marjon men鈥檚 football captain Liam Prynn told us that, 鈥淚t鈥檚 the one day of the year that every student, sporting or non-sporting looks forward to. The atmosphere around campus is electric and that transfers into the performance on Varsity day. For us as a football club, 3 out of 4 wins is a great success and that reflects all the hard work that have put in all season. Each player stepped up and ground out a brilliant performance to give us the Varsity win. There was some exquisite finishing (Prynn scored twice!) and our passion and fight was next level!鈥
However, in spite of these commendable performances, 91视频 University won the majority of events, proving too strong in areas such as lacrosse, American flag football and water polo.
